farragomate

You know those fridge magnet kits composed of a whole bunch of words? The ones you put all over your fridge door and then try to arrange into all sorts of juvenile and/or amusing sentences. Well, Farragomate is the social, webby version of that very same pastime.

You get to play with a bunch of random strangers in real-time, and make up sentences out of a pre-set collection of words, including some fairly naughty ones, and all players’ nicknames. As you can imagine, some of the results are not child-friendly.

There are ten rounds to a game. Once a round is done, players get to vote for their favorite sentence from that round. You can’t vote for your own creation, of course. There’s in-game chat, too.

I think the vocabulary could be made a bit more eclectic, but even as it is, it’s a nice way to spend a few minutes and meet random strangers on the Internet (always a thrilling experience).

Listening to music reduces the stress level and helps to calm an individual. It also rejuvenates and soothes one’s mind. Moreover, a listener can sing the song along with the same beats and rhythm.

Music industry is aware of the demands of listeners and so keeps on updating the music systems with new software. Sonos is the foremost digital music system that enables an individual to play music in all the rooms of the house.

Computers are equipped with memory, software, sound card, processors, record and play features that can play the same track infinitely. One such software is named file-sharing program. This enables the internet user to browse a site and download the music in a digital format. Moreover, all the songs can be downloaded free of cost with best quality voice.

DVD players are another source of music. These players make use of digital video discs to store data and movies. Official ‘Hollywood Tonight’ remix coming to Miami Music Week.

Leaving the South by Southwest festival, Lavo New York and Las Vegas’ Marquee in his wake, house DJ Chuckie has his sights set on the week ahead. With Miami Music Week now upon us, Chuckie plans to seize the opportunity to debut new material. Fans will be tickled to know the Dutch producer has tracks in the can with Kelly Rowland and T-Pain, but when MTV News caught up with him Friday in New York, Chuckie shared the achievement of which he’s most proud.

“I did a Michael Jackson remix, which was really scary — to touch Michael Jackson vocals,” Chuckie said. “I did this remix for this track ‘Hollywood Tonight.’ I couldn’t say it for a minute: The label called me, and they said, ‘You can’t say nothing about this. It’s kind of a secret project.’ It’s gonna come out anytime now.”

“Hollywood Tonight” was originally produced by Teddy Riley for Jackson’s posthumous Michael album, and Chuckie’s mix of the song will be the sole official remix of the track.

“I will play it Miami,” Chuckie revealed. “I told them this is the best week to launch the remix. So it feels really good. I’m the only one remixing that Michael Jackson track, and they are considering it a single. For me, especially, it’s an honor to remix the King of Pop because he died on my birthday.”

So, will the mix be a thundering Chuckie Dutch house banger or will it have a melodic progressive house feel, like his Marquee remix of Diddy-Dirty Money’s “I Hate That You Love Me”? Well, according to the “Let the Bass Kick” producer, fans will be getting a healthy dose of both.

“I had to bring in the raucous,” Chuckie confessed. “Yeah, I did the Chuckie flavor, but then again, I wanted to make it really musical, so I went progressive (house) on it.”

Chuckie will be performing twice at Miami Music Week: at the Cr2 Records Party at Wall Lounge on Wednesday, and then headlining “No Sugar Added” at Nikki Beach on Friday.

Are you excited to hear Chuckie’s remix of Michael Jackson’s “Hollywood Tonight”? Let us know in the comments below!

Arts and Entertainment For the Budget-Minded Aficionado

During a recession, people tend to cut back on their arts and entertainment spending. But the arts are life-enriching, and entertainment is crucial during difficult financial times. Here are some inexpensive ideas for cultural pursuits.

Films look best on the big screen. If you crave a theatrical release when it’s actually released, go to matinees. Seniors can get a big discount on tickets.

More tips:

-Single-screen theaters and theaters on the edge of cities tend to charge less for tickets.

-Check out your Park & Recreation Department during the summer. Many fund free outdoor movie nights.

-If you or someone you know has projection equipment, hold a movie night in your back yard. Throw a potluck dinner and borrow some classic films from the library.

If live theater is on your list, try volunteering as an on-call usher. Training is minimal and most ushers get to see the show for free. The longer you usher, the more likely you’ll get your pick of shows.

More tips:

-Local repertory companies generally charge less than bigger theatrical productions.

-Matinees and week nights are less expensive than weekends.

-Look for local theater groups that perform for free in public parks.

-Check your neighborhood library for free children’s programs that include puppet shows, storytelling, and musical performances.

Large museum shows can be pricey but most every museum offers corporate-sponsored free days at least once a month. Check Web sites and do some research-it’s not always readily available information. You can always call and find out, then mark every free day in your calendar and plan accordingly. This goes for children’s museums and science museums too.

More tips:

-Small galleries hold openings for new artists’ work and group shows. Get on their email lists.

-Street fairs will have on average, at least two booths full of decent art, and free craft demonstrations, which are entertaining.

-Volunteer as a docent in your favorite gallery or museum. You’ll learn about art, the local art scene, and possibly get invitations to museum events.

A final tip: Your local college or university offers affordable arts programs and gallery shows.

“In advance, yes — you’re right, it’s impossible. But nonetheless, we have ten radios all working at the same frequency, all at the Shannon limit… and there’s no interference.” You may not fully grok the significance of that statement, but anyone heavily involved in solving the wireless bandwidth crisis is probably dropjawed. For a little background, there’s a perceived limit in wireless known as Shannon’s Law, which largely explains why no one can watch a YouTube clip on their EVO at Michigan Stadium. For whatever reason, it’s been assumed that this law was fundamentally unbreakable, but it looks as if an unlikely member of society may have just overrode expectations. OnLive’s CEO Steve Perlman recently revealed a breakthrough from Rearden Companies — in short, they’ve figured out a workaround, and in testing, it’s doing things like “removing dead zones” altogether. His slide, shown during a presentation at Columbia, notes that the implications here are “profound,” and we couldn’t agree more. Do yourself a solid and hit play in the video below the break — we’ve fast-forwarded to where this section begins.

‘I’ve listened to their music since I was a child,’ says the R&B diva, who recorded ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love.’

You wouldn’t peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin.

In early February, reports began circulating that Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin’s classic “Stairway to Heaven,” working with Travis Barker, “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her Stronger With Each Tear album, due Monday.

But after she had recorded “Stairway,” Blige continued to get the Led out, covering another Zeppelin classic — the thunderous “Whole Lotta Love” — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the Essence Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you’d probably imagine.

“I did Led Zeppelin’s ‘Stairway to Heaven’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ — it’s crazy,” she said. “I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I’m not going to say I’ve been to their concerts, but I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven,’ and ‘Whole Lotta Love’ is just fun.”

Blige also said she recorded another new song — a “club record” called “I Can’t Wait” — for the re-release. And while it’s only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon.

“I want y’all to hear it,” she laughed.
