When any entertainer takes the stage, they have many jobs. the one that is most important however, is to entertain the audience. It sounds simple but the truth is, it is not always as easy as it sounds. Some people get into the entertainment business and do a few shows and burn out. The problem is, just because they burn out does not mean the get out of the business.
In the business of magic and in the children’s entertainment field, you have to be funny. Circus folks tell people all the time, make um laugh…make um laugh…everyone loves to laugh. There you have it. Everyone loves to laugh and have a great time. Comedy better be a part of your act or you will not be around long.
Children love to laugh and have a great time and will not hold back on telling you their thoughts and what they are feeling when it comes to you and your show. If you go to any video site and type in magic as a search, you are bound to find that after watching a few of them…most had comedy as a routine part of them.
If you are an entertainer, you better know how to get the crowd in the mood. Try entertaining in the one hundred and two degree heat. All I can say is, you better be super funny. When you make your money in this business, the entertainment business, you better make the clients happy. Laughter works wonders and goes along way.
People often ask why some magicians are able to have an audience in the palm of their hands and others have to work very hard to entertain that same audience. Comedy helps to overcome these barriers that are set up by the audience. Keep in mind that some audiences have never seen a magic show or a Broadway play. Live entertainment is not available every where.
A large group of us magicians are still trying to understand why someone who claims to be a magician does things like rents out moon bounces or does a living statue that throws objects at an unsuspecting guest. I guess the living statue works on the fact the after they get over the ’scare’ of the flying object – they laugh and it is that laugh that is funny and keeps them happy.

When entertaining at home there are a few things that go into planning. There is no need to host a grand shindig anytime you want to have friends or family over; but people will notice when you make certain special preparations on their behalf. Here are some tips to help your home entertaining go as smoothly as possible, without causing you a lot of work and stress.
For most people, the first thoughts about entertaining go towards the kitchen. There is really no problem with planning your menu first, as long as you give yourself some time later to think about how your home will look when guests arrive. But we’ll talk about that later. For now, let’s go into the kitchen.
To make your dinner planning easy, browse through easy recipes that you can make in your crock pot. If you find that you may need more than one, borrow from a friend or family member. There are plenty of quick and easy recipes for chicken that will wow your guests into thinking you slaved over this luscious meal. Using a crock pot, you could load in boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut potatoes and carrots. On top of these items, pour in either home made gravy, or store bought chicken gravy and then cook for an hour or so. You’ll know the chicken is done when it is no longer pink in the middle. Making this sort of meal, you can set it and forget it and go about preparing your house for your special guests.
After dinner, you will undoubtedly serve coffee, as is done at most home events. However, what about the person who doesn’t like coffee? You want to be sure to have something for everyone. So, look into a Keurig brewer to make your home entertaining easier. Keurig brewers come in a few different sizes in order to meet the needs of different people. Some people really like their standard 8 ounce cup of coffee, while others prefer a larger cup. Keurig brewers are available to accommodate these different needs.

Your decorating for home parties doesn’t have to be elaborate or outlandish. You don’t have to create a theme for every party. All you need to do is provide a comfortable place where your friends and family can sit back, relax and enjoy one another’s company.

The Benefits of Using an Entertainment Booking Agency
There was once a time when the only way one could book entertainment was through a booking agency. Most entertainers and celebrities booked their dates this way. The internet has changed the way business is conducted in the industry. Many artists now include booking information on their websites, leaving many booking agents searching for new clients. The internet, however, also presents many risks in booking talent and has many second-guessing their decision to not utilize the services of a professional agent. For example, there are many unofficial artist websites, posing as the real deal. Doing business with them could quickly separate you from your cash with no way of knowing where to go or who to call to get it back. There are many “offline” examples of concert promoters losing their money by forgoing the services of a professional booking agency. For instance, some promoters will book dates through people who claim to personally know the artist, or has a friend who knows his road manager, bodyguard, etc. Some think calling the record company is the answer but I have personally been given bogus booking information from them too. I must admit; one has to be careful in selecting a booking agency too. Some of them will rip you off, if you are naïve or inexperienced. So, what’s a buyer to do? And who can one really trust?
If at all possible, you want to work with booking agencies you know. If that is not feasible, a recommendation from someone you know and who has done business with the agency will suffice. Contact your local radio stations, newspaper entertainment writer, or venue managers and ask for a recommendation. Contact the agency of your choice and ask for referrals. Find out if they are licensed, bonded or affiliated with any reputable organizations that you can verify. Do an online search of the company’s name and the owner’s name.
The bottom line is, make sure you do your homework before you sign any contracts or send any deposits. And don’t think that signing a performance contract directly with the artist’s management company is a safer way to do book a show. If you find the contact information online, it could be a scam. Or, the management team has changed and the site has not been updated. Even if you find the right contact information, how do you know if you are not paying too much? In many cases booking direct can increase the chances of a “no-show” by the artist. And, your legal fees could cost more than your loss. By securing the additional gigs for the artist, the booking agency has the leverage to make most of them honor their commitment. It must be stated that no one can guarantee that the artist will fulfill the contractual agreement. However, you can increase your chances of a successful show by booking through a reputable and trustworthy booking agency.
Working with a booking agency provides the buyer knowledge, convenience and piece of mind. Plus, they can free up your time to work on obtaining sponsors, securing the venue, creating a marketing scheme, and all the other fun jobs that come with the responsibility being a promoter. Use their expertise to enhance the overall quality and experience of your events. Do your homework. Find the best agent for your promotion and go to work.

Along with listing and writing Christmas cards is the list of guest we’re inviting over during the holidays. “Gee, this year the Butterfields and Hamburgs are coming. I must put my best foot forward. You know everyone will be talking about how lavishly I entertain my guest. Have to make a grand-slam first impression! Oh, I almost forgot; I must pick up those silver candlesticks at Bloomies while they’re on sale.”
Wow. What happened to the hospitality in entertaining? Here’s what I wrote on my fan page wall yesterday:

I want to leave something with you that will have an indelible affect; Something that you can carry-over into 2010 use over and over again. Many if not all of you will be celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa during this season. You’ll be entertaining your friends and family in some format, whether at your abode or theirs. So along with that I thought it was appropriate to share with you my Kingdom blueprint for successful entertaining all the time with peace of mind, which is nothing short of good ole hospitality.
Friends and Family: You are Always Welcomed Here
I’m reminded of what Apostle Peter wrote:
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
1. Everyday Life at Home. Paul tells us in the book of Romans to practice hospitality. Generally, we take this as referring to guests in our home. But begin to practice hospitality at home by first living hospitably with your family. Do special things for them not only during Christmas or holidays, but find ways to be a blessing any time.
2. Entertaining and Hospitality Home and home life is a gift from God. So there’s no need to become over-dramatic and stressed out thinking everything must be perfect before you practice hospitality. I used to feel this way. By the time my guest arrived, I was so tired and sometimes irritable from trying to have everything perfect that I couldn’t enjoy my guest. It is never about us or what we have, it’s about blessing others with what we are given to share.
3. Peace of Mind: Preparation. When I was growing up, my grandmother was always prepared for an impromptu meal because guest would drop by without calling. (That was the norm in the southern community where we lived). She always had a baked pie and/or cake in the refrigerator. She was prepared to share a meal with our unexpected guests. She would entertain her guest from a heart and love with hospitality. Staying prepared for an impromptu meal or an unexpected guest is simple. Keep simple things on hand like hard and soft cheese, crackers, fresh or frozen fruit, baby spinach, red peppers, green olives, nuts, a bag of linguine or noodles, etc. to prepare a quick and easy dish. Get the idea? Also, practice placing cloth napkins at the table setting even with a quick brunch or late lunch. This sends the message of hospitality to your family and guests that they are special. I prefer using cloth napkins over paper napkins because it practices Green Living and being a good steward of the Earth God designed for us.
4. Home Living: Be Creative Hospitality is also for you and your family, so live creatively at home with your beautiful things. My grandmother and mother would never use the good china and crystal-ware unless guest were coming. I admire them for the desire to share their cherished things with guest, but what they didn’t know is hospitality is the Kingdom way of home living. Use what you have in creative ways. Take a crystal glass and fill it with candy or mints. If you don’t have crystal, china or silver, there still are beautiful things you can pull out of your closet or pantry and use. A bowl or dish that you cherish can serve as a beautiful center piece filled with Christmas ornaments. After holidays are over, fill this same bowl with fruit, candles, nuts, potpourri, your favorite flowers or chocolate kisses.
Take the time to lovingly prepare for your guest, but seek to enjoy the relationship while communing and sharing together. Refresh your guest with yourself. Don’t allow what you don’t have to stop you from being hospitable and a blessing to family and guests. It is not about you, but those He places in your life that your hands can touch for Him. You never know when you may be entertaining angels unaware.
